Immunology
Immunology is a biomedical science that studies the innate non-specific immune system and the adaptive or specific immune system. In response to disease or infection, the innate immune system provides a rapid, general, non-specific immune response, and if it is unsuccessful in destroying the pathogen, the adaptive immune system then provides a highly specific immune response to target the pathogen. The adaptive immune system is also responsible for the development and maintenance of memory cells, specifically T and B cells, which remember previous aggressors and provide quicker specific immune responses against re-offending pathogens.
Immunological disorders bring harmful reactions and results to the organism, e.g. hypersensitivity reactions, autoimmune diseases and tumour etc. Tumor has been the primary reason resulting in global death. When lesions of tumour appear in the body, special proteins, enzymes and hormones which are hardly seen in healthy conditions will appear in blood and urine. These special substances tested in the medical examination are called tumor markers. Usually, in Japanese medical examination, tumor markers are screened by highly accurate blood and serum test.
