Monkeypox Virus

Monkeypox Virus

Since 2014, FineTest begins to produce ELISA kits with a well-established R & D system for ELISA kits, antibodies and proteins. Based on known gene sequence of monkeypox virus(MPXV), FineTest has successfully developed various MPXV - related proteins expressed by E.Coli and ELISA kits.

About Monkeypox Virus

Monkeypox virus(MPXV) is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus, and belongs to orthopoxvirus genus in the poxvirudae family. Similar to viruses in the same genus, MPXV is likely to replicate uniquely morphological intracellular mature virus(IMV) and extracellular enveloped virus(EEV) in the host's cytoplasm. IMV has solid physical structure facilitating the transmission among hosts. Weaker EEV is coated by envelope to limit immune clearance, which is suitable for intercellular transmission.

In 1970, isolated human MPXV cases were first found in several African countries. During the past 20 years, the virus was widely distributed in African continent. Since 2022 May, MPXV cases across the world have greatly increased. WHO has to announce Monkeypox epidemic is the global health emergency.

MPXV Pathogenesis

MPXV first enters into human body via respiratory tract or skin, aiming to infect airway epithelial cell or keratinocyte. Then, the virus infects antigen presenting cells(e.g. dendritic cells and macrophages). These cells spread the virus to nearby lymph nodes, causing lymphadenectasis. Then, the virus spreads to large organs(e.g. spleen, liver etc.), skins and gonad via lymphatic system and blood respectively. Finally, the virus forms pustule and ulcer on the skin and mucosa, releasing a large number of virus possibly transmitted via aerosol.

MPXV-nosogenesis

Immunotherapy and prevention strategy are public health tools capable of effectively control the MPXV epidemic with strict contact tracing. Besides, serological diagnostic tools are also very important for knowing the contact history.
